From: hair removalist :) i'm assuming you're talking about ingrown hairs. there are several types of well... severity of ingrown hairs.
if the ingrown hair is simply unsightly and is very close to the surface you can break the skin's surface using a sterilised needle to create an opening in the site and get the hair out using tweezers if it's still attached to the hair follicle.
if the ingrown hair is a bit deeper, try not to pick and not to dig too deep. i would advise to leave it alone. skin's cellular renewl cycle is 28 days, so wait and it might come up to the surface sooner than you think. (in fact this happens with majority of ingrown hairs)
in very rare circumstances ingrown hair can get infected and the site might get swollen and inflamed. many times this is a direct result of us "digging too deep" in the effor to get the hair out. see your doctor i this happens. you really dont want an infection! in extremely rare cases even a quick surgical involvement may be necessary.
